The Wisdom of Transition
A September Reflection
September has a way of asking us to notice the in-between. The evenings arrive a little earlier, the light softens, and something in us starts to shift too. This is National Yoga Month, and inside this issue you'll find a dharma on transition, a pose to help you find balance within it, a short meditation to carry with you, this month's mantra, and an invitation to join us in person as the Harvest Moon rises.
We're so glad you're here for it.
The Wisdom of Transition

September teaches us something beautiful: we do not have to be completely finished with one season before we begin becoming part of another.
Nature doesn't rush the transition. The trees don't wake up one morning and suddenly become autumn. The light slowly changes. The evenings arrive a little earlier. The air begins to shift. And almost without noticing, we find ourselves in a new season.
Perhaps we can give ourselves permission to change this way, too.
So often, we put pressure on ourselves to have everything figured out. We want clarity before we take the next step. We want certainty before we let go. We want to know exactly who we are becoming before we're willing to release who we have been. But life doesn't always unfold that way.
The moon reminds us of this throughout September.
As the moon begins the month in its waning phase, we are invited to ask: What am I ready to release? What thoughts, expectations, habits, or old stories have I carried long enough?
Then comes the New Moon โ a quiet, dark beginning. Not everything new arrives with fireworks. Sometimes a new beginning is simply a whisper. A moment when we decide to try again. A breath that says, maybe I don't have to keep carrying this.
As the moon grows toward fullness, we can gently nurture what we are creating. Not with force. Not with perfection. But with patience and presence.
And then, near the end of the month, we meet the Harvest Moon โ a beautiful reminder to pause and recognize what has grown. Because we are often so focused on what is next that we forget to honor what is already here.
What have you learned this year?
How have you softened? What have you survived?
What have you grown into that the version of you from a year ago could not yet imagine?
September invites us to harvest โ not only the accomplishments we can measure, but the quieter things, too: the courage to begin again, the wisdom to rest, the strength to let go, and the ability to return to ourselves.
In yoga and in sound, we practice listening. We listen to the body. We listen to the breath. We listen to the spaces between the notes. And sometimes, in that listening, we hear something we have been too busy to notice: we are already in the process of becoming.
So this month, don't rush the transition. Let yourself be between what was and what will be. Trust that there is wisdom in the in-between. Just as the moon does not apologize for changing, you don't have to apologize for evolving.
May September be a month of gentle release, meaningful beginnings, and deep gratitude for all that is already growing within you.
๐ Half Moon Pose โ Finding Balance in the In-Between
The moon connection makes this a natural companion to September's lunar cycles. It represents balance during change โ one foot remains rooted while the rest of the body reaches and opens. It reminds us that transition doesn't mean instability. We can stay grounded even while we grow.
"In Half Moon, we are asked to do two things at once: root down and reach out. September asks the same of us. As one season begins to shift into another, we can stay grounded in who we are while remaining open to who we are becoming."
